Mark L. Eshbaugh is an artist, writer, and musician.

[edit] Art career

Eshbaugh specializes in photography and painting, but occasionally exhibits sculpture also. He began studying art at age 12, working in oils and acrylics painting public murals and small canvases. He began college as a painting major but in 1995 took up photography while studying with photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen. Eshbaugh earned a Bachelors of Fine Art degree in Photography from University of Massachusetts - Lowell and a Masters of Fine Art degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In his graduate studies Eshbaugh researched archival toning of black and white silver gelatin prints. He has also researched alternative processes and published a textbook on the subject. [1]

Eshbaugh’s photographs are considered Conceptual Art and his paintings are referred to as Abstract Expressionist style. Eshbaugh has taught workshops in the United States, Mexico and Europe. He has taught at Bridgewater State College, Montserrat College of Art and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. He now photographs and paints full-time. He also serves as a director of the Lowell Friends of Photography and continues to teach workshops.

Mark has exhibited his photographic images in more than 100 exhibitions worldwide.[2] He has given public lectures on his photography in galleries, museums and on television. His images have been featured in numerous publications, including B&W Magazine, Photographer’s Forum, Pinhole Journal and Hayden's Ferry Review. He is the author of several books including his text on Alternative Photography Processes as well as several monographs of his images. Eshbaugh's images are included in several private and public collections.[3]

Eshbaugh began his music career in 1989. He is proficient with all percussion (including drum set, mallet percussion, timpani and orchestral percussion), guitar, bass guitar, violin, viola, cello, contrabass, keyboards/synthesizers, harmonica, and vocal performance.[4] He studied drums and percussion with Gary Spellissey and voice with Monique Phinney. He is a founding member of The Destitutes his last full-time band now listed in the Dirtywater: Boston Music Museum and Hall of Fame.[5] Eshbaugh has performed with several acts[6] worldwide.[7] He is a prolific songwriter and session player having played on over 45 full-length albums.[8] He has engineered, mixed and produced several more recordings beyond those he appears on as a musician.[9] His new album Aural Fixation was released in April of 2008.
