Mark Ashton (1961—February 11, 1987) was a popular English gay rights activist, socialist and member of the London Communist Party.[1] He was diagnosed with AIDS on January 30, 1987 and died 12 days later. His death prompted significant response from the gay community, particularly in publication and attendance at his funeral at Lambeth.[1][2] In his memory, the Mark Ashton Trust was created to raise money for individuals suffering from HIV, and as of 2007 it has raised £20,000.[2]
