Marjorie Gestring (November 18, 1922 – April 20, 1992) was a competitive springboard diver from the United States who won the gold medal in 3-meter springboard diving at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany at the age of 13 years, 268 days—the youngest person ever to win an Olympic gold medal.[1][2]
With the cancellation of the Olympics in 1940 and 1944 due to World War II, Gestring did not get a chance to defend her title, and her comeback attempt for the 1948 Summer Olympics fell short.[1]
She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1976,[1] and is a member of the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame.[3]
