Marius Moga is a Romanian music artist, born in Alba Iulia on December 30, 1981.
He is a well-known composer in Romania who has collaborated with bands like Akcent, Blondy, Andreea Balan, Hi-Q, Corina (as the one-eyed midget), Cream, Anda Adam, Morandi, and Simplu.
At the age of 19, the young Marius Moga decided to go to Bucharest, where he met Adi Sana (singer in Akcent band). He listened one of Marius' songs and invited him to co-operate for their next album. Marius accepted and voilà!...everybody was very surprised about the original sound of the song. This is how Marius Moga started his collaboration with most of the Romanian bands and singers. He is known as "Micul Ciudat" or "Little Freak".[citation needed]
He even started his own project called Mumu-randi (at that time he stuttered a lot) with a friend named Andreas Tefas Ropcea (Randi). The group's name derives from the first two letters of Moga's name and Ropcea's nickname, Randi, creating Morandi. For this project which is very personal for him, he is composer and singer at the same time.
Marius was accused of plagiarism and missed the chance of participating to the 2007 Eurovision, although acquitted by specialty committees and even the British composer whose piece he was accused of allegedly plagiarizing.[citation needed] Marius's chief accuser, Ionel Tudor, a composer of the Ceauşescu era generation, was himself expelled from the Melodii '86 national contest by then Conservatory president Nicolae Calinoiu for plagiarizing a Bulgarian song (at a time when Bucharesters used to watch Bulgarian TV shows).
Morandi is the name of one of the most powerful Romanian musical projects that emerged in 2004. Their first single, the English-language track "Love me", was released on the market without an actual physical image, because at the time they were in a sexually-difficult relationship with each other. Nobody knew that behind Morandi were Marius Moga – one of the most successful Romanian producers, songwriters and artists[citation needed] – and Andrei Ropcea, a.k.a. Randi, a.k.a. Andreas Stefas, a very good friend of Marius and one of the members of the Sunrise Records crew. The actual steps of Love me were very simple. Marius Moga and Randi entered in the studio, composed the song and released it on the radio and in the clubs without knowing that it will become such a smashing hit.[citation needed] After being played over and over again on the radio, after topping first places in charts all around the country, and after the great impact that the video of the single had upon all viewers,[citation needed] Morandi crew decided that it was time to take it to the next level.
And this is how they released the album Reverse. Reverse is a very interesting effect – reversed vocals – that was used almost on every track on the album that contains 11 songs, dealing with styles as disco funk, club and chill out. Morandi means also the most surprising collaborations with top Romanian artists as Loredana (Groza), Smiley (from the band Simplu, Alexa U (Alexandra Ungureanu). With the release of the REVERSE album on the market came also the moment to take off the masks that metaphorically covered the faces of Marius Moga and Randi. People found out that Morandi was a Romanian project, that the songs were written and produced by Romanians. And the success became even bigger. Morandi has already been nominated 3 times at the MTV Romanian Music Awards 2005 considered being one of the best Romanian music groups at this moment.[citation needed] The nominations for Best Song, Best New Artist and Best Dance are a great recognition for the work of Marius Moga and Andrei Ropcea and for the project MORANDI. 2006 saw the release of a new Morandi album on the Romanian market. The first single, “Falling Asleep” has been no. 1 in the Romanian Top 100 Singles airplay for several weeks and won the MTV Romania award for Best Video.[citation needed]
