Maritime domain awareness
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maritime-domain awareness (MDA) is an initiative by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to create a national command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR or C4ISTAR) capability, monitoring all ports, coasts, and navigable waterways within the United States. Created as part of the December 2002 "Maritime Strategy for Homeland Security," the MDA initiative attempts to collect, analyze, assess, and disseminate intelligence in defending the United States from maritime threats.
