Marita Lorenz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marita Lorenz (born August 18, 1939 in Bremen) is a German woman who at the age of 19 in 1959 had an affair with Fidel Castro and in January 1960 was involved in an assassination attempt by CIA on Castro's life. She has also had a relationship with the Venezuelan former dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez.

She is the subject of a documentary film Lieber Fidel - Maritas Geschichte - "Dear Fidel - Marita's Story". Marita Lorenz currently lives in New York.

Lorenz' testimony about a supposed Kennedy assassination plot was carefully investigated by the House Select Committee on Assassinations, and found to be unreliable. [1]

Her testimony named Francisco Fiorini as the CIA agent who recruited her to assassinate Castro, and that this was an alias for Frank Fiorini Sturgis.

In February, 1985, she testified in a trial involving a suit by E. Howard Hunt against the Liberty Lobby. Attorney Mark Lane used her testimony in an attempt to prove that Hunt was a JFK assassination conspirator. Her account here was also lacking credibility. For example, her testimony in a pre-trial deposition placed Lee Oswald in the Everglades training for an invasion of Cuba at a time when Oswald was known to be in the Soviet Union.[2]
