Maris Soule

Maris Soule (born June 19, 1939) is the American author of twenty-five romance and romantic suspense novels, two short stories, and her latest ("The Crows") is a mystery novel. Her books feature a variety of settings and situations, including the Iditarod Sled Dog race, SAR dogs, barrel racing, dressage, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy.

Several of her books have been finalists or winners of awards:

  • 1999 RITA Finalist and 3rd in KISS OF DEATH Contest
  • Second Place, 1998 KISS OF DEATH contest
  • First Place, Traditional Category, WisRWA WRITE TOUCH: Reader’s Choice Award
  • First Place, Short Contemporary, WisRWA WRITE TOUCH: Reader’s Choice Award
  • Finalist for RWA’s 1988 RITA AWARD (known at the time as: Golden Medallion Award)

Maris Soule was born in Oakland, California, graduated from U.C. Davis with a B.A., received a Lifetime Teaching Credential from U.C. Berkeley, then taught art and math at Rio Americano H.S., Carmichael, California, La Cumbre Jr. Hi., Santa Barbara, California, and Galesburg-Augusta H.S., Galesburg, Michigan. Married in 1968, she and her husband moved to Michigan in 1970.
