Mario L. Edwards (born on December 1, 1975 in Gautier, Mississippi) was a football cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins of the NFL. Edwards went to Florida State where he starred early at cornerback. He was considered a top prospect towards the end of his junior year, but a poor performance in the 1998 Fiesta Bowl combined with an injury hampered and inconsistent senior season saw him drafted with the 16th pick in the 6th round by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2000 NFL Draft. Edwards spent the first four seasons of his career with the Cowboys, becoming a full time starter in 2002. While with the Cowboys, he started 47 games and was part of the statistically ranked number one overall defense in 2003. In 2004, Edwards signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent, but was released the following off-season. In 2005, he signed with the Miami Dolphins after the possibility of trading Patrick Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs, which eventually happened. Edwards would be released prior to the beginning of the 2005 NFL season.
