Marintia Escobedo Santibáñez (actress, journalist, writer, life coach) was born in Mexico city. She is a Gemini born on June 17th. After thorough thought, her mother, Maria Teresa Santibáñez, decided she did not want her baby to have a common name. She wanted her to be ‘unique’ and made up a name for her. So one could say that ‘Marintia’ is the result of her mother’s inspiration in addition to her rejection of copied names. Her father, Salvador Escobedo readily agreed. She has one sister, Nini, who is an aesthetician / educator, and two brothers, Emiliano and Salvador.
Marintia is the grand daughter of Luis Ignacio Santibáñez Patiño who was one of the pillars of communication in Mexico, also known as ‘the golden voice’. When she was five years old, she would go with her grandfather to the radio station where he used to work, the XEW, and admire the microphone, the lights and the celebrities whom she had seen on TV, and she decided there and then that the microphone would someday be her tool of trade; however, she had the deep desire of becoming a famous actress. As she grew up and expressed her calling, her family rejected the possibility under the argument that ‘a good girl cannot be an actress’. As Marintia grew up, she secretly enrolled in acting classes and read every book on the subject that she could find. In 1985 she entered “The Model of the Year”, a local talent and beauty pageant sponsored by Televisa, the largest Mexican TV network, and after an arguably clean voting process, she ended up not really knowing what place she had won. This, however, did not diminish her determination to make a career in television and she was hired in her first show. “En Vivo” (Live) with journalist Ricardo Rocha. She started off interviewing guests to the show ‘behind the cameras’, which meant that she portrayed what people were doing or had to say before or after going on stage. In 1987 she became the first host of a show called ‘Proyeccion 2000’ (Projection 2000), also interviewing all kinds of guests; later on, she was called to host an entertainment segment in ‘ECO’, an ambitious project that would air twenty four hours, seven days a week all over the world. During that time, she was also an anchor with journalist Jorge Berry and later on her own as well as with Jacobo Zabludovsky, with whom she also co-anchored ’24 Horas’ (24 Hours), the most important newscast of its time. Two years after Jacobo Zabludovsky left the network, she decided to quit the newscast and went back to entertainment. She hosted and produced two distinct segments which rapidly gained the audience preference. Marintia Escobedo also hosted the show ‘CE.RE.SO Rojo’ in which she went into jails, investigated, analyzed and interviewed inmates, some guilty, some unjustly incarcerated. She conducted this show until she was warned by authorities not to disclose certain information or her show would have to go off the air. Marintia decided to end the show, rather than to lie. As a host, she was also a part of ‘El Terreno de Eva’ (Eve’s Territory) among several others on TV; WRadical and La Ampolleta on the radio, and has been a collaborator with several publications. As an actress, Marintia has been in the cast of diverse TV shows, movies and theatre plays and has been on stage with Jane Fonda, Sally Field and many others during the four years she performed Eve Ensler’s ‘The Vagina Monologues’.
Marintia Escobedo is also a certified personal fitness trainer, a nutritionist, photographer, writer and since 2005, a Oneness Blessing giver (also known as a Deeksha giver) and has attended diverse processes at the Oneness University. Apart from her work as a communicator and a performer, she conducts courses and seminars to help people improve their experience of life. She has the secret wish to record a music cd.
