[edit] Outline

Due to trade embargoes following the completion of the solar energy pipelines, Azadistan can no longer export its fossil fuel reserves, and consequently is faced with an economic crisis. As the first princess of Azadistan, she has to deal with a lingering problem with a diminishing supply of fossil fuel reserves as well as economic instability. Azadistan has recently became a monarchy and she was elected as sovereign to restore the national economy by the Azadistani Parliament. She embarks on a diplomatic mission to seek aid from other members of the AEU, but has met with little success due to Celestial Being's constant "interference".

During one trip she meets Setsuna and "saves" him from British police officers, believing him a member of her nation. During their conversation, Setsuna confessed to her his identity as a Gundam Meister "Setsuna F Seiei", but she believed it was a cruel joke. However, after a successful hostage rescue played in part by Celestial Being, Marina believes that Setsuna is indeed a Gundam Meister, and possibly looks upon him in better light. A later visit by Setsuna to Marina's palace room at night confirms his identity, though this visit was short.

She believes that war can be avoided through diplomacy, yet she is comparably politically naive. Lately, her efforts have brought an understanding between her kingdom and the Union in terms of the development of solar energy in her country. She's worried about Setsuna, in episode 22, she feels relieved when she sees that it's not his Gundam that is cornered. She is shown to be a pacifist and appears in Setsuna's dream, telling him it is okay for him to stop fighting.

Setsuna writes a letter to her, which she receives and reads as he floats in space in a disabled Exia, saying that he would already be dead by the time she reads the letter. Setsuna says that they were kindred spirits, in that they both want to end wars and try to fix the problems of the world, albeit in their own ways. He had hoped that she would be able to tell him about humanity as well as answering his question. At the end of the letter however, he states that they would both continue their goals on separate paths, and that he would most likely to keep on fighting. Upon finishing the letter, she begins to cry.

After the timeskip at the end of episode 25 into the year 2312 AD, Marina is still seen to be Azadistan's princess, however, upon the formation of the Earth Sphere Federation, Shirin Bakhtiar left her for unknown reasons.
