Dr. Marilyn C. Solvay is the current Director of the Sullivan Museum and History Center in Vermont, United States. She is a 1973 graduate of The University of Arizona and holds a BA degree in Art History, as well as in 1975 she received a MA in Anthropology. She then attended George Washington University where she received a MA degree in teaching in museum education. She also received a Ph.D. from Lesley University in Educational Studies in 1999.
Dr. Solvay has held professor positions of Museum Studies, American Studies, and Art History for over 30 years, in over a dozen colleges and universities, including The University of Pennsylvania and Lesley University.
Dr. Solvay is a published author, editor, and journalist. She was the co-author for an article for History News, on national family learning project at The U.S.S. Constitution Museum titled, "Laughing & Learning Together: Family Learning Research Becomes Practice at the USS Constitution Museum." As well as the co-author of The Qualitative Study on the impact of the National "Youth Alive Program (31 museums) on at-risk teens for the Association of Science and Technology Center, and for The Smithsonian Institution. She was a Book Reviewer on The Promise of Cultural Institutions; by: David Carr for The Journal of Visitor Studies.
Dr. Solvay gives many museum education and study workshops and presentation across the United States. Highlight conventions have been for organizations such as The New England Historical Association, The American Association of Museums, History Alliance, The Upstate History Alliance, The American Association for State and Local History, and colleges and universities.
