Maria Susanne Loysa "Luise" von Degenfeld, 1667 created Countess, (November 28, 1634 in Strasbourg - March 18, 1677 in Mannheim)
Maria arrived in 1650 to Strasbourg - as a servant in the household of Charles I Louis, Elector Palatine. She caught his eye, and they were married in 1658 - after Charles Louis unilaterally divorced his wife, Charlotte of Hesse-Kassel. Maria was given the unique title of Raugravine of the Palatinate (Raugräfin von der Pfalz, related to countess, but implying jurisdiction over uninhabited lands), and their children were known as the Raugraves and Raugravines of the Palatinate.
They had 13 children in total, 8 of whom survived beyond childhood. The only one of her children to marry and have children was her daughter the Raugravine Karoline. Four of Marie's sons were killed in battle, one was killed in a duel.
