Maribor Synagogue

Maribor Synagogue (Sinagoga Maribor) is a synagogue in Maribor in Slovenia. Located on Zidovska ulica (Jewish Street) it was the centre of the Jewish community in Maribor which was once the most prominent in the Eastern Alps.
It was first mentioned in 1429, but was believed to have come existence well before that. By the side there is a Jewish cemetery, the rabbi's house and the Talmudic school; and a the ritual bath was located in front of the town wall by the side of the building on the Drava [1].
Throughout its history the synagogue served temporarily as the seat of the supreme rabbinate for Styria
After the Jews were expelled from the city, in 1501 Maribor Synagogue was turned into the Catholic Church of All Saints.
