Mariano Pavone is an Argentine footballer. He was born on May 27, 1982, in the city of Tres Sargentos, Buenos Aires province.

[edit] Estudiantes de La Plata
Pavone left his childhood club Boca Juniors at the age of 14 and featured for Estudiantes de La Plata in the Argentine Primera for over ten years. His most notable achievement so far was scoring 16 goals in the Clausura 2005, making him the top scorer. Pavone was selected by Argentine sports newspaper Ole as the best player in the 2006 Apertura tournament, where he scored Estudiantes's first goal against Quilmes and Estudiantes's last goal which secured the 2-1 victory over Boca Juniors in the final . All in all, Pavone scored 11 goals in this tournament, but also excelled at assisting his fellow strikers, such as the long dribble before Estudiantes's fifth goal against Gimnasia La Plata in the October 15 derby. Pavone is also noted for his tactical discipline and focus.

Pavone signed for Real Betis in late June 2007.[1] The player, who was on his honeymoon in the city of Seville, was purchased by Real Betis for €6.8 million. He became the first signing under the new management of Héctor Cúper. Real Betis presented the player to the press and fans on July 17, 2007. On July 23 Pavone scored on his Betis debut in a friendly game against CD San Fernando. He also assisted a goal for fellow Argentinian Juan Pablo Caffa.
His first competitive debut came in the La Liga season against Recreativo de Huelva on 26 August. Following a very long stage of adaption with Real Betis and Spain, the Argentine scored his first La Liga goals against Real Zaragoza in a 2-1 on November 11 - the winner, scored by Pavone, coming in the 90th minute. Pavone score against Elche CF on his Copa del Rey debut, on December 12, a game that ended 1-1. Four days later against UD Almeria he scored his second brace in Betis colours as los Verdiblancos defeated Almeria 3-1.
