Marianne Merchez (b. November 25, 1960 in Uccle) is a former Belgian European Space Agency astronaut who has the dubious honour to be the only ESA astronaut to have retired from the program without having flown in space.
Consequently, no Belgian Walloon has flown in space, as the other two Belgian astronauts are Flemish.
She is married to former Italian astronaut Maurizio Cheli. She retired from ESA in 1995.
