Maria Bonnevie

Maria Bonnevie (b. September 26, 1973) is a Norwegian-Swedish actress. Born in Västerås, Sweden, she grew up in Oslo, Norway. Her parents, both actors, are the Norwegian actress Jannik Bonnevie and Swedish actor Per Waldvik. Bonnevie was educated at Stockholm Scenskola (1997) and had her first theater role in Hrafn Gunnlaugsson's Den hvite Viking (The White Viking).

In 1997 she had her debut at the Swedish theater Dramaten, in the play Yvonne by Ingmar Bergman. Her screen debut was in the movie Kvitebjørn Kong Valemon (directed by Ola Solum, 1991). Her big breakthrough came in the movie Jerusalem (directed by Bille August, 1997), and among her later movies are Insomnia (1997), Øyenstikker (Dragonfly, 2001) and Syndare i Sommarsol (2001). For the movie Jeg er Dina (I Am Dina, 2002) she received a prize for best foreign actress at the Montreal International Film Festival. In 2002 she was named one of European film's Shooting Stars by European Film Promotion.

Her engagement to Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt (from 1998 to 2003) attracted much attention from the popular press. Bonnevie is currently dating the former Norwegian talkshow star Fredrik Skavlan.
