Marek "The Punisher" Piotrowski (born August 14, 1964 in Dębe Wielkie near Mińsk Mazowiecki, Poland) is a retired professional Polish Heavyweight kickboxer, boxer and martial artist.

[edit] Amateur career
He started his career as a very young ju-jitsu fighter, then he got interested in Karate Kyokushin. In 1984 he got Junior's Poland Championship. Then he did the same in 1985 in Senior Championships. He did 13 official fights in karate and won all of them. In July 1993 he got the black belt 1 DAN. At the beginning of 1987 he started to do kickboxing, preferably as full-contatct. This formula of kickboxing was prohibited in Poland at that time. On 11th October 1987 in Monachium he won amateur World Championship in up to 81 kg category. The same year he also won Poland's Championship and then won in Hungary - the World's Cup, being recognised as the best fighter of the Cup.

In 1988 he decided to go to the USA to, as he declared, become a professional World Champion. In October 1988 he fought Bob Handegan in his first fight on American soil, in Rockford, winning by knock-out in the 4th round. On the 19th of August, 1989 - in his fifth fight in America, he out-worked the then-unbeatable Rick "The Jet" Roufus, winning by decision and won his first professional Championship of the USA title in the PKC organization. He also got a nickname "The Punisher" at that time. On 4th of November 1989, in Chicago he beat the famous Don "The Dragon" Wilson to become the World Champion in multiple organisations: ISKA,PKC,FFKA Through 1991 he fought six battles, beating Bob 'The Thunder' Thurman in Las Vegas and excellent Mark Longo. He still maintained an unbeaten pro record, with the result of 29-0 (19 k.o.). On the 22nd of June, 1991 - despite having personal issues, he fought the rematch with Rick Roufus and lost in the second round by K.O. On the 10th of February, 1992 Piotrowski started his adventure with professional boxing, winning the first battle by stoppage in the 4th round. He still wanted to regain his lost ISKA World Championship title and fought several fights in kick-boxing. He won all of them. In July 1992 he also won another title by beating a Canadian Conrad Pla. On the 22nd of November, 1992 in Paris he fought against the multi-federation champion [Rob Kaman|Rob 'The Dutchman' Kaman] (also known as 'Mr Low-Kick', 98 wins, 78 K.O.s) in low-kick formula. He lost by TKO in the seventh round, after a very dramatic fight. After this loss Piotrowski again focused on regaining his lost titles. He was also looking for a chance to avenge his losses to Kaman and Roufus, but never got it. 22.06.1993 - in Montreal he defeated Michael "The BlackSniper" McDonald by TKO. The same year he won the fight with Mike Winklejohna winning at this time the World Champion title (by ISKA) in oriental rules formula (this formula allows low-kicks and knees). 15.04.1994 in San Jose, California, he won the fight with Javier Mandez. In December 1995 he battled his last fight in kickboxing in Krakow, Poland, with Italian Stefano Tomiazzo. He won the World's Champion belt (by WKA) therefore capturing every possible world title belt in full-contact at least onceISKA, KICK, PKC,WAKO-PRO,FFKA, WKA and TBC. For the second time he became a professional World Champion and 9-time World Champion. At the same time while being a kick-boxer, he continued his career as a professional boxer. Between 1992 and 1996 he fought in 21 fights and won all of them. He finished his career on 13.12.1996 in Hanower winning his last boxing fight. In 1997 he was offered to fight for professional championship in IBF organization, but he had to refused due to his health problems. He came back to Poland in 2002.

1987 he got 'the Siren' from the Sportowiec magazine for being the best sport discovery of the year. Three times he placed in the first ten of the best polish sportsmen in the Przeglad Sportowy ranking (1988, 1989, 1990), twice on the second position The Fighter magazine in their 'best kickboxers of the 1980s', placed Piotrowski on the second place in up to 172 pounds weight (78kg). Twice he was recognised by American experts as the best kickboxer of the year (1989 and 1994). Also he was chosen by American press as one of two the best fighters of 1990s. In 1991 Aleksander Bilik published the book 'Kickboxer', describing the career of Piotrowski till the year 1990. In 2005 a movie 'the Warrior' was filmed - the documentary about Marek Piotrowski. Also in 2005 there was the comic strip 'the Kickboxer' published in Gazeta Wyborcza. In 2006 Marek Piotrowski received the Stanley Honour - Kick Boxing statue.
