[edit] Themes
While an effort is typically made to show films concerned with contemporary justice issues, the film festival remains relatively small, running over the course of only three days and does not employ any staff. As a result, organizers are unable to bring many unreleased films or premieres to the festival. Its inaugural year (2006) did include a city premiere of the film Bunso: The Youngest a film portraying the plight of children jailed for minor crimes in the Philippines.
[edit] Organization
The Second Annual Marda Loop Justice Film Festival will be held on November 16 to 18, 2007. A group of volunteers organizes the festival which comprises members of the community, members of SPAN (Sustainable Practises Action Network) and members of First Christian Reformed Church. The Festival is held in the First Christian Reformed Church Auditorium. www.justicefilmfestival.ca

[edit] Purpose
The people bringing the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival to the community of Marda Loop and greater Calgary are volunteers who care about all people and the world in which we live. They hope to offer an annual festival, to:
- foster awareness and understanding of injustices and indignities suffered by some in this world; they are neighbours
- encourage participants to take steps of care and actions that seek justice
- offer opportunity to talk about views of the world, essential questions, and what is needed for it to be a place of hope and goodness
