[edit] NT Style: The Vision
Marcus's vision of freediving "To glide effortlessly into the deep, totally relaxed, letting the ocean take control of your body. Nothing to think about except that moment. A pure moment. Your heart slows as not even your lungs have to work, a stillness takes hold of you as you slip further into the blue" [[1], fuelled by his mentor Loic, formulated the NT Style in 2004. (originally dubbed Chapuis Style, after Loic's coach and mentor Claude Chapuis) "I must be relaxed at every depth before I progress… I must allow for physiological adaptation to the depth. I must learn to accept the water, accept pressure" [[2]]. The NT Style now sits comfortably next to the quantative driven training schemes used by many other freedivers, having been proven at personal, national and international level.
"Fun and enjoyment are paramount, what is the point if you don't enjoy the journey? After all the journey is traveling not the destination."
"NEVER Freedive alone, (it is much more fun with friends)" [[3]]
"Most importantly freediving is for everyone... The feelings I get at 50 or 60m I can teach to people in 2m of water. The beauty is getting to know your own body, to enjoy being where you are.. in that moment. whether it is at 30m under the sea or sitting on a train"
Marcus started NoTanx Club in 1999 in Kingston South London. Working closely with Loic Leferme he developed the successful format of his CIPA club in Nice. NoTanx is renowned for its eclectic members. All ages and all walks of life, the weekly training sessions prove that international Competitive freedivers can train effectively alongside "recreational" freedivers (such as Marcus's long suffering Mum).
[edit] International Coach
Marcus's first world record was coaching Herbert Nitsch during the World Championships in Hurghada, Egypt,in December 2006, Herbert set the Constant Weight dive of 111 m, and also claimed the Static Apnea record of 9:04. In 2007 Marcus and Herbert set the world record in Spetses, Greece [[4]] in June 2007 when he achieved 214 m (702 feet) in Spetses, Greece on a revolutionary sled. Marcus helped Herbert to set the Constant weight (No Fins) record during The Triple Depth in Dahab, Egypt, to 83m [[5]] and went onto push the Constant record to 112m [[6]] during the World Championships in Sharm el Sheik. Herbert also won the AIDA Individual World Championships.
Marcus has recently coached relative new comer and rising UK star Alan Barber to a Dynamic No Fins record of 127m [[7]], Now viewable on YouTube [[8]]
[edit] "Competitive" freediver
Marcus is an international freediver in his own right. He set his first 2 UK records, Free Immersion -47m and Constant weight No fins -25m, in NDAC in 2003. [[9]] and bettered the Free Immersion to 50m in 2004.[[10]]. In 2007 he was ranked 13 in the World. Unfortunately his own diving career will never supersede his talent/passion for coaching, all his competitive dives are marked by his reluctance to take them seriously [[11]]
[edit] Relaxation therapist
Building on the NT Style freediving, Marcus teaches derivatives of the techniques to a huge range of people. Through seminars, small group tutorials and one to one coaching he shows that efficient brain function and relaxation have benefits throughout life.
Some specialised courses he runs are: SCUBA diving (extended dive time), General sports (focus and relaxation), Exam preparation.
