Marco Polo Cycling Team (UCI Code: MPC) is a UCI Continental cycling team that is based in China. The team is named after the famous world traveller Marco Polo. The idea of the team came in 1998 but it was not until 2001 that the team became official, when the team was registered in Hong Kong. In 2003 the team became a UCI continental team[1] and from 2005 the team was registered in China becoming the first professional cycling team from China.[2]
The team signed Li Fuyu in 2005 and he rode with the team for two years before signing with the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team. This led to a partnership between the two teams, resulting in the formation of the 2007 Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team. In 2008, Trek cycles became the main sponsor and the name became Trek-Marco Polo Cycling Team. The team has a house in the Netherlands for enabling the riders to compete in Europe.
