[edit] Career

He is a player known primarily for his speed, who started his career at Tirsense in Portugal. In the 1998 season he played at Atlético Madrid but after six months he joined Japanese club Yokohama Flugels. In the 98-99 season he signed with FC Paços de Ferreira, where he was a key player. After, in the 99-00 season he signed with Vitória Setúbal where he played from 1999 to 2002.

Ferreira then joined Portuguese club FC Porto, where he was part of José Mourinho's squad that defeated Scottish club Celtic in the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, replacing Nuno Capucho in the 98th minute.[1] He also featured in several Champions League matches in the 2003/04 season, but was not selected for the squad that won the final. Ferreira also added two Portuguese Liga titles to his honours in 2003 and 2004. During his time with the club, Marco wore the number 78 shirt because he was born in 1978.

After his seasons with FC Porto he moved to Vitória SC for the 2004-05 season. In the 2005 season he joined FC Penafiel but was then transferred to SL Benfica, signing a contract until June 2009. While in Benfica, Marco was unable to establish himself as a first team player, and was placed on the transfer list.

On 31 August 2007, Ferreira joined Championship side Leicester City on loan until the end of the year,[2] but his contract was terminated in December after becoming unsettled in England, making no senior appearances for the club.[3] He came close to making his debut against Nottingham Forest in a Carling Cup match on 18 September 2007, but was an unused substitute as Leicester won 3-2.[4]

[edit] International

Ferreira's debut came in a friendly against Tunisia in October 2002. He has played four times for the Portugal national team.
