Marchesi

The nobile family Marchesi comes from the city Lugo, Italy, near Bologna in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

The family dispersed after the unification of Italy, one branch settling in Spain, another in South Africa.

Recent prominent Marchesi family members include the three brothers: General Bruno Marchesi, who fought with the Division Azul; Jose Maria Marchesi, a Knight of the Order of Malta and Marquis of Loureda; Emilio Marchesi, entrepreneur. More recently still, Antonio Oyarzabal Marchesi served as Spanish Ambassador to the US from 1996-2000, and Javier Ozores Marchesi (Count of Priegue) - film producer, novelist and food critic.
