March railway station serves the town of March in Cambridgeshire, England. The station is 22 km (14 miles) east of Peterborough on the Ely to Peterborough Line.

The station has six platforms, two of them filled-in bay platforms. However only two are used. Nearby can be found the Whitemoor marshalling yards, which have now been returned to use in 2004 having been disused since the early 1990s.

[edit] Spalding and Wisbech branches

March was once a junction for lines to Spalding and Wisbech. The Spalding line was closed in the 1980s and has now been completely lifted. The Wisbech line, known as "The Bramley Line" by some, completely closed in 2001 having lost its regular passenger services in 1968. The trackwork however remains intact and there are plans to reopen the line as a non-commercial heritage line run and maintained by enthusiasts. As part of these plans during 2006 the level crossing over the A47 was re-laid, having been removed during road improvements in 2004.

[edit] Service

On Weekdays, National Express East Anglia operate a two hourly service eastbound to London Liverpool Street and westbound to Peterborough. CrossCountry operate an hourly service eastbound to Cambridge and Stansted Airport, westbound services serve Peterborough, Leicester and Birmingham New Street.

On Sundays the service frequency is similar, without CrossCountry services to Whittlesea and Manea.
