- HK Chief Executive TUNG Chee Hwa announces he is to resign. He blames his poor health for the decision, while others believe that he may have been sacked by the PRC government. - HK Chief Executive TUNG Chee Hwa has reportedly resigned, with reluctant approval from Beijing. The Standard, (BBC),(CBC), (Globe&Mail), (Reuters), (CNN). China's leaders may worry that the unpopular Tung's resignation sends a signal to HK people that if they complain long and hard enough, they could force the resignation of other leaders too. (BBC).
