Marcel Barral

Marcel Barral (1909 - 1997) was a French poet born in Marseillan, Hérault.
He was married to Josephine Bousquet, who died in 1988.
He was a teacher, and later a professor and inspector of academies. He was posted to Senegal and Egypt.
Under the name Marcel Viala, he published a collection entitled « Entre les quatre fleuves », (Between the four rivers), in memory of the three Voltas (rivers of black Africa, where he had spent a part of his life) and the Hérault, the river after which the département of his birth is named.
He died in 1997.
