In Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series, Marc de Trevalion is the reigning Duc of Azzalle, wed to Lyonette.
He quarrels with the King when Quintilius Rousse, rather than himself, is asked to oversee the securing of the northern coast following the overthrow of the Alban Cruarch. As he knew of the plots of his wife and son to overthrow the throne of Terre d'Ange but did nothing to stop them, he is banished when they are sentenced to death; Marc would have shared their fate but for the intervention of Ysandre de la Courcel, who suggested the softer fate. It is Ysandre who later recalls Marc from exile, and proposes his daughter Bernadette wed Ghislain de Somerville.
Marc is recalled, and Bernadette is betrothed to Ghislain. The Trevalion title is then held in trust for their firstborn child. Marc joins up with Ghislain and adds his military force to the Somervilles'.
