[edit] Playing career
Marc Savard was selected 91st overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He was selected as the 2nd choice of the New York Rangers. He was traded to the Calgary Flames on June 26, 1999, along with the Rangers' 1st round choice in 1999 NHL Entry Draft (which Calgary used to select Oleg Saprykin), in exchange for the rights to Jan Hlavac and Calgary's 1st round pick (New York selected Jamie Lundmark) and 3rd round pick (which was later traded back to Calgary; Calgary selected Craig Anderson) in that year's Entry Draft,. He was acquired by Atlanta from Calgary in exchange for Ruslan Zainullin on November 15, 2002. Savard played in the Swiss league during the 2004–05 NHL lockout. In July 2006, he signed with Boston after becoming an unrestricted free agent. Known as a playmaking forward with good passing ability, Savard wears his draft number, 91, for the Bruins.
Savard was named to his first NHL All-Star Game in January, 2008. He scored the game-winning goal with 21 seconds remaining in the third period.
Savard didn't make his Stanley Cup Playoff debut until his 11th season. He scored his first playoff goal half-way though the first overtime period in the Bruins 2-1 OT win in game three of the 2008 first round series against the Montreal Canadians.
