Marc Roberts, [1], singer / songwriter, originally from Crossmolina County Mayo and now based in Galway. Prior to 1997, Marc fronted his own band doing his own original work / American country classics. The talented singer / songwriter hit the headlines in May of that year when he represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest with Mysterious Woman. Performing in front of millions of television viewers throughout Europe, Marc made the musical breakthrough and finished a very credible second on the night. Marc was thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the world’s biggest song contest, which helped launch his career. Television, radio and press interviews ensured the whole of Ireland was made aware of this new singing sensation and his debut single was a No. 2 smash hit in the Irish pop charts.
Marc’s debut album was released in 1998. The album highlighted Marc’s considerable writing skills with six of his own original compositions featured. Top producers Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy in Dublin produced the album. “Meet Me Half Way” & “Once in your Life” (title track co-written with Brian Kennedy), followed. Marc is currently working on his 4th album which will include some co-writes with Jimmy MacCarthy & Winsten Sela from the U.S.A. Marc’s albums are licensed to record companies in both the U.S. & Australia, where he tours regularly.
Song writing has always been important to Marc since he was selected to represented Ireland in a showcase of best Irish song writing talent. He, along with Mick Hanly, Sinead Lohan, Charlie McGettigan, Eleanor McEvoy and Jimmy MacCarthy suitably impressed a specially invited audience of top music publishers and industry representatives in America.
Marc has enjoyed critical acclaim for his tribute concert to the late John Denver, who is one of his influences along with other singer/songwriter legends like James Taylor, David Gates, Dan Fogelberg, Janis Ian and Carole King. Marc’s shows have sold out the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Opera House, Cork & many other theatres in Ireland.
After a number of protracted negotiations with radio stations here in Ireland, Marc was delighted to join Galway Bay FM as a guest presenter. He currently has a three-hour Saturday afternoon show from 12 to 3pm. This is predominantly Marc Roberts doing what he loves most, talking about and playing his favourite music. He also presented a series on [RTE Radio One] called “Songmakers”.
Marc has also become a mentor to his showbiz pal Daniel O'Donnell, guiding and encouraging the superstar to become a songwriter. Realising that Daniel’s turn of phrase had a lyrical quality; Marc coaxed him into co-writing songs with instant success. The fruit of their partnership has led to 15 O’Donnell/Roberts songs appearing on Daniel’s recent top-selling albums, including one top twenty hit in the UK singles charts.
