Marc Kielburger (born 1977) is a Canadian author, humanitarian and activist for children's rights from Thornhill, Ontario.

He was educated at Brebeuf College School, Harvard University (magna cum laude in International Relations), and University College, Oxford (Rhodes Scholar, degree in Jurisprudence).

[edit] Kiel Network

Free The Children[1] is part of the Kiel Network, founded by two brothers: Craig and Marc Kielburger. The Kiel Network is a trio of worldwide organizations comprised of Free The Children, Me to We[2], and Leaders Today[3]. The organizations of the Kiel Network act together to empower and engage young people and adults to effect positive social change in the world through education, leadership, and action.

Together with his younger brother Craig, Marc is the co-author of the bestsellers:

  • Me to We: Turning Self-Help on Its Head and
  • Me to We: Finding Meaning in a Material World

They also write a regular column for the Toronto Star, and for Canadian Living.

  • Youngest person ever to be awarded the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship[4][5]
  • At the time (2004, aged 27), he became the youngest to be selected as one of Canada’s "Top 40 Leaders Under Forty"[6] (In 2006, aged 23, his brother Craig became the youngest.)
  • Honorary doctorate from Nipissing University for his work in leadership development[7][8][9]
  • Toronto Catholic District School Board Alumnus of the Year Award, 2005
