Marc Holtzman was the first Secretary of Technology for the state of Colorado and served as the first and only President of the University of Denver. Holtzman currently resides in Carbondale, Colorado, with his wife Kristen Hubbell.
At age 20, Holtzman was an Executive Director for the Ronald Reagan campaign for the state of Pennsylvania. Holtzman later went on to become a venture capitalist in the former Soviet Union, where he developed strong ties with Eastern Europe. (Former Polish president Aleksander Kwaśniewski recently campaigned with Holtzman in Colorado.) In 1986, Holtzman ran for Congress in Pennsylvania, but was defeated by Democrat incumbent Paul Kanjorski.

[edit] Gubernatorial Campaign
Marc Holtzman attempted to become a candidate in the Republican primary for Governor of Colorado in 2006. A significant campaign organization was built, which would spend millions of dollars under the direction of Dick Leggit. The central aspect of the campaign was a state-wide bus tour focusing on the issues the Colorado Republican Party and fellow candidates were dodging (i.e. lower taxes, immigration reform, and education reform).
The campaign became the subject of trivial legal problems, after questions regarding illegal coordination with one of the only groups to oppose Referendum C & D. The lawsuit was brought by Holtzman's primary opponent Bob Beauprez. During the course of these trifling legal investigations, Dick Leggit resigned from the campaign after he admitted to giving exaggerated information to the press. Ironically, Beauprez' campaign manager later did the same, yet the Holtzman campaign decided not to take any apparent action that would disturb the flow of both the campaigns even though Marshall admitted he had lied to the press.
Holtzman was defeated at the Colorado Republicans' State Assembly, receiving 28% of the vote, a percentage not high enough to qualify for the primary ballot. His backup plan to petition onto the 2006 primary ballot failed when he fell short of the required number of signatures. Issues arose with the Secretary of State's database after numerous Republicans were deemed invalid voters. Gigi Dennis, the current Colorado Secretary of State, has been an ardent Beauprez supporter and has been criticized for being incompetent several times in the media.

Holtzman was named to be president of the University of Denver in May 2003. Some questioned the decision to nominate Holtzman to this position, which was newly created that year. Although some students at the University of Denver initially opposed Holtzman, he developed a reputation for working well with the student population.
Holtzman resigned his position to run for governor in 2006. No successor was named.

Holtzman worked for ABN AMRO utilising his large network of connection, particularly with emerging markets entrepreneurs of a Jewish origin. In May 2008 he resigned and moved to Barclays Capital with a team of 40 other bankers.
