Marc Gilbert born Gilbert Marc Lévy on the 24th of april 1934 in Strasburg, France and died on the 6th of November 1982 in Étretat , France. Son of Jérôme Lévy, horse seller and real estate and Yvonne Metzger, he produced and animated the shows Eurêka, Volume & Italiques from 1966 to 1974 at the ORTF. He married in 1973 Laurence de Cambronne , journalist at Paris Match then at ELLE who gave him two children: Jérémy born in 1976 & Alexandre in 1980.

[edit] The experience of nazism
Originally from Ringendorf and Duppigheim in Alsace , Marc Gilbert's parents owned stable lads in the center of Strasburg and his grand parents grain business. Everything is stolen by the Nazis because of racial laws during World War II and the German menace oblige them to escape to Lyon and change their names. He becomes Alfred Jost and hides in a catholic school , la manécanterie de Claveisolles. The head father hides jewish kids and résistant kids & learns him hebrew hidden from the other at night. He will be able to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah in Strasburg after the war.

The synagogue of peace replace the one of the avenue Kléber burnt by the nazis ; his parents receive the shophar of the synagogue of Ringendorf. He prepares in 1953 one year of preparation for medecine studies (PCB) in Besançon. He meets there in 1954, Suzanne Ducretet, working for Lip, leader of horlogery at that time. They have a child Fabrice born in 1955.

The next year, he goes back to Lyon, begins medicine studies and become on another side journalist for Le Progrès. He signs his front page articles: The student. He writes also for the magazine Planète , the Reader's Digest and in Paris in 1963 for the Nouvel Observateur with Jean Daniel. He cosigns sometimes with Catherine Dreyfus. And writes also for the magazine Life. He will animate in live on RTL the epic tour of the moon by Apollo 13. For Volumes, ihe will organize a documentary for ORTF at the Institute for Advanced Study of Princeton with Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the bombe. The film ends on this saying of Oppenheimer : « I am not optimistic ».

In 1971, Pierre Sabbagh asks him to animate Italiques (ORTF) , « a television show centered on books for the readers and realized with their help ». It is a popular success and the généric is modified. It will be Ennio Morricone who will do the music with the soundtrack of A l'aube du cinquième jour (Dio e con noi) of Giuliano Montaldo and Jean-Michel Folon who will create a motion picture famous for his little blue men who fly with the books. He hires Jean-Jacques Brochier, Max-Pol Fouchet, Georges Walter, Jacques Legris and Marc Ullman as chronicers. Than Catherine Laporte, journalist at ELLE, her sister Ariane Randall and Jeanne Lara.

In 1979, Marc Gilbert becomes general secretary of the Institut Français des Relations Internationales (IFRI) that publishes every year the report Ramses.He quits a year after to approach the movie industry presenting Alexandre Trauner to Marie-Christine de Montbrial, who will become the producer of Luc Besson for the movie Subway. He reads thousand of science fiction books and mainly Frank Herbert , J.R.R.Tolkien and Ray Bradbury 's . He loves american musicals like That's entertainment! , Top Hat or The gay divorce . His cousin Gilbert Lang lives in Beverly Hills next door to Ginger Rogers where he will get married.
