[edit] Biography

Montoya grew up in suburban Denver, Colorado[1]. He started snowboarding as a winter pastime for skateboarding. Montoya embraces his urban roots, which many deem refreshing in a sport generally ruled by young suburbanites. He is the first Mexican-American pro to make his way from inner-city Denver, and is the only major Latino snowboarder on the circuit. He has been featured in nearly 300 pages of industry coverage since turning pro [2]. Montoya was named "Rock Star of the Year" in the 2004 Transworld Magazine Rider's Poll[3] and was number 3 on the Snowboard Magazine[4] list of the top 10 Riders of 2005. He is a master of rails and all things park. He is also instrumental in developing various snowboarding brands and products. In addition, he has his own chain of snowboarding related hotels, called the The Block. He is sponsored by Technine, Stop, Drop, andRoll, SPY goggles, Skullcandy, Flop, Napster, ICUP Headware, Monster Energy Drink, Milosport, Kicker Audio, Altamont Clothing, Emerica Shoes, "Pop-Tarts", and Bluebird Wax. He is best known for his urban style. In addition to snowboarding, MFM, as he is called, is a successful rap DJ. His talents gave him his own pro gear from all his sponsors. Technine made him pro model bindings and a pro model snowboard (starting in the 2008-09 season), Spy made him goggles, and Skullcandy made him headphones. He designed a new line of apparel called Sound, expected to be launched in the 2008-09 season. He has made many appearances in snowboard movies in the years.
