Marc's is a discount grocery store chain located in the northern and central Ohio areas. Many common items are sold at competitive lower prices than other local and national chains. Although prices are lower, the tradeoff is a lack of certain amenities, such as (until recently) credit card payment; stores first accepted Discover Card, then added the support of Visa and MasterCard. American Express is currently not accepted. Many of the stores require their cashiers to manually enter prices of items into the registers, although a growing number of stores have converted to barcode scanning. The store also stocks various cheap closeout items that vary from week to week.
Marc's is owned by prominent Clevelander Marc Glassman, who also owns Xpect Discount Drugs in Connecticut. In 1979, Glassman created the first Marc's store in Middleburg Heights, a suburb on the southwest side of Cleveland, and since then the chain has expanded to nearly 60 stores across the Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown and Columbus areas in Ohio.
