Mar Abba

Mar Abba was the Katholicos (or Metropolitan of the Nestorian church at Seleucia-Ctesiphon from 540 to 552.
He was a native of Hala in Mesopotamia and a convert from Zoroastrianism. He also belonged to the school of Nisibis, which was founded by Barsauma.
He restored discipline in his church and helped limit several existing abuses, including incest. He died as a result of three years of torture and exposure he suffered during the persecution of Christians under Khosrau I, the king of the Sassanid Empire.
He is a highly regarded and significantly venerated saint in the Nestorian church. His feast day is celebrated on both the 7th Friday after Epiphany and on February 28.
He is included in the Ausgewählte Akten Persischer Märtyrer, and The Lesser Eastern Churches.
