[edit] Plot

María Isabel (Adela Noriega) is a poor but good-hearted and honest indian. She lives with her father and his second wife who hates María Isabel. Her best friend is Graciela, the daughter of Félix Peréira, a cruel and unfeeling rich man. The two girls grow up together. Graciela falls in love with an engineer but her father decides to marry her to his friend's son. She gets pregnant but because she is afraid of her father's wrath, she leaves her hometown with María Isabel when she learns that her boyfriend dies in an accident. The two girls go to Guadalajara where Graciela gives birth to a baby girl, and dies a few days later. María Isabel leaves then for México where she tries every kind of work in order to raise Rosa Isela. Some years later, she meets Ricardo, who employs her as a servant in his house. Ricardo is a good-hearted rich engineer who treats María Isabel with respect. María Isabel falls in love with him but she keeps it a secret for many years. An incident makes her confess her love and Ricardo realizes then that he is also in love with her and decides to marry her. Everyone is against this marriage, but after a lot of suffering and many obstacles, true love finally wins against all odds and triumphs over superstitions and arrogance.
