From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scan and cropped photo of George C. Marshall and Mao Zedong in Yenan. Quality and size is significantly less than original by private individual published in "Mission to Yenan" by Carolle Carter.

The rationale for use of this image is that George C. Marshall's visit to Yenan was a significant event, where as the United States was attempting to avert civil war in China. An extensive search for pictures in the public domain of Marshall's visit produced no results. This picture "might" also qualify as government created, as the photographer was in the United States military at the time of the photograph, but retained the picture for personal use (Major Clifford Young, the last Commander of the Dixie Mission). Since I was unsure if this would fall into public domain as a work of a military branch, I elected to upload it as a Fair Use, in a considerably degraded and cropped version of the original.
