[edit] Rationale of fair use for Popular culture studies

The image MarshallMcLuhan.gif is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright, I (TreveXtalk 00:45, 22 September 2005 (UTC)) feel it is covered by fair use because:

  1. The image is important to the article, depicting a figure highly influential in cultural studies who is discussed in the article.
  2. This is an image of an important academic and cannot be reproduced by any other means. There are no known public domain or free-use images of this individual.
  3. This is a low-resolution image and as such will not effect the commercial value of this work in any significant way.
  4. This image does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the original image in any way.
  5. On Wikipedia, the photo is used for non-profit and informational purposes only.
