[edit] Summary

This photo of Grand Duchess Maria Kirillovna of Russia and one of her daughters was obtained from a posting at Alexanderpalace.org and is used with the permission of the poster who scanned the image onto the forum, I believe from a postcard she owns. I'm not certain what year the photograph was taken. Maria had three daughters, all born in the early to mid 1930s, and the child in this photo looks about age 3. It could be dated about 1935. I'm not sure about whether this image would be in the public domain or not, given the year it was taken, but it is the only image available of Maria as an adult. I am using it under the fair use provisions, though I think the image may also fall under the public domain. Its quality is only fair, making it unlikely that its use would damage the commercial value of the photograph if it does happen to be under copyright. The child in the portrait is still living as far as I can tell; the woman died in 1951.
