This file is purposely maintained in GIF format (most international GIF-related patents have expired) to allow enlargement beyond original size, on English Wikipedia, which reshrinks oversized PNG images, a few seconds after enlargement (as of 14Nov07). Using PNG-format will lose the ability to stay enlarged, at an oversized magnification, on English Wikipedia (see below: More PNG troubles). Also GIFs typically display 3x times faster than resized PNGs.

As of 14-November-2007, a PNG-format image oversized (larger than original) only enlarges temporarily in English Wikipedia, then reverts after a few seconds to the maximum size of the original PNG-format file. However, a GIF-format file retains its oversized enlargement dimensions (in English Wikipedia) and reports total size as the size of the original GIF image.
This is the latest in a long string of troubles with PNG files, which were found to be 8x-21x times larger/slower than similar JPEG files (on Commons or the wikipedias). Then thousands of files were forced into PNG format, deleting the original file-formats. Then, the size information was blocked, with the disabling of the right-click menu (on English Wikipedia), so that PNG images cannot be "Open(ed) in New Window" on English Wikipedia. Now, PNG-format images cannot be enlarged beyond the original size in English Wikipedia, but can on Wikimedia Commons.
