Close Combat: Marines is the first version of Close Combat universe made specifically for military training purposes. Forces consist of USMC and OpFor troops. The game was first released in the September 2004, issue of the Marine Corps Gazette.
The version released via the Marine Corps Gazette was version 3.1, since then several other versions have been released, although they have not been made available outside the Marine Corps. The v4.0, was released on 29, September 2005, though the latest version is v5.1.
A commercial version for civilians was made called The Road to Baghdad, but the game was bug loaded and was poorly received by the Close Combat community. In November 2007, Matrix Games released Close Combat: Modern Tactics, an enhanced commercial release of Close Combat:Marines.
Close Combat: RAF Regiment was based on Close Combat Marines.
