[edit] Split proposal
[edit] Discussion
All along I thought in the Marvel Universe Cosmic Entities are a subcategory of Cosmic Beings, whereas Cosmic Beings being the more common phrase, which also includes beings which were only cosmically enhanced (like the Heralds of Galactus), enhanced beings up to a cosmic level (often only for some time like for example Adam Warlock or Thanos) or only beings with cosmic powers (like handling the Power Cosmic) or performing in cosmic affairs (like Quasar).
At the moment I'm cleaning up this category (amongst others), so that by the words of the article Cosmic entities (Marvel Comics) I have to kick many characters out of this category. But I think a category for the semi-cosmic beings mentioned above would be nice, so what do you think?
Split this category to Category:Marvel Comics cosmic entities and Category:Marvel Comics cosmic beings ?
(Same would consequently apply to the article List of Marvel Comics cosmic entities.)

- This will turn into a mess with people mixing up the categories. Keep categories simple. It's not like the list is so long that it needs to be broken down into small lists. Overly specialized categories render all categories useless because we wind up with too many categories to bother checking any of them. Also, how do you define "cosmic entities"? Everyone not born on earth? That's too many characters. - Doczilla 02:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

- People already mixing up these two categories by adding articles to a category, they don't belong to (that's not my statement! See Cosmic entities (Marvel Comics) and Talk:List of Marvel Comics cosmic entities). Once the articles are sorted (to one of the two proposed categories) it will be easy to manually correct new/false category assignments (A task I would take on, if nobody else is willing to do so ...no problem at all with category watchlisting :). Otherwise, if this category won't be split, many articles have to be de-categorised, which will be end up in re-adding them to the category by unknowing people and again deleting the category and so on and so on...
- And about "It's not like the list is so long": Didn't I mention that I'm cleaning up this category extensively at the moment? See the subcategories I already created... ;-)
- Also these subcategories help to clean up the category orgy, some article are suffering. With a subcategoriy like Category:Elders of the Universe for example you get rid off many other categories in the articles (which are rarely kept consistent) like
-
-
-
- Category:Marvel Comics cosmic entities
- Category:Marvel Comics immortals
- Category:Marvel Comics aliens
- Category:Silver Surfer villains
-
-
-
- ...and possibly others like...
-
-
-
- Category:Marvel Comics cosmic energy users
- Category:Marvel Comics characters who came back from death
- Category:Marvel Comics characters who can emit energy ...whatever
-
-
-
- ...by categorising the category instead of many, many articles.
- Additional: this way categories are waaaaaay much easier to maintain like for example correcting or complementing categories for articles.
- (See also Help:Category for the right moment of adding new subcategories and with m:Category flatten there will be wonderful potentials in the future! :)
-
- As for defining "cosmic entities" and "cosmic beings", I think I have given good examples above, but for short: The Living Tribunal, Eternity and Kronos in my eyes would be cosmic entities and Heralds of Galactus, Elders of the Universe and Quasar would be cosmic beings. For me not every alien is a cosmic being, you know! But before shouting out "Everyone not born on earth? That's too many characters" too loud ...do you looked at Category:Marvel Comics aliens? - Weapon X (de) 14:18, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Decision
Survey closed with decision to not split the category and instead de-categorise all articles that don't belong to the category (See Cosmic entities (Marvel Comics) and Talk:List of Marvel Comics cosmic entities). --Weapon X (de) 17:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
