Summary

This template allows the placement of mapping data into the article, and also incorporates {{coord}} to provide a Geo microformat.

A good source of data is Geoscience Australia's place name search. Note that this template accepts only decimal input, but will output in degree-minute-second format.

Usage

To use this template
  1. Copy the blank template below into the relevant space in your document, usually after the "External links" heading per Manual of Style
  2. Enter values for the fields as outlined in the table below.
  3. Preview.
  4. Save the page with an appropriate edit summary.

Fields

All fields used by this template are optional. The following fields are available:

Field Name Required? Description Values
lat yes latitude of location decimal number e.g. -34.000 for 34°S (note negative sign)
Range: -10.7 (Cape York, QLD) to -43.6 (South East Cape, TAS)
long yes longitude of location decimal number e.g. 135.000 for 135°E
Range: 113.155 (Steep Point, WA) to 153.6 (Byron Bay, NSW)

The templates adds articles that are outside this range to Category:Pages requiring geodata verification. Entries under sortkey "." are generated by this template.
