General guidelines

Anyone editing this page should read Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computer_and_Video_Games so that in the future, perhaps this article can join that project. -- Prod-Me 03:15, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Anyone who wants to work on character or game guides should go to the wikibooks section at Wikibooks:MapleStory. The link is also at the bottom of the article in the External Links section.

Only Notable Fan sites and guides should be kept in the article. Small/new forums and guild websites do not belong. This isn't the place to advertise

Game issues section should only include factual information about existing scams, without including you avoid the scams. Also, please dont link to scam/hack websites.

Refer to sleepywood, hidden street and basilmarket for pricing information, it does not belong here since it is far too volatile and not encyclopedic

Naming fads?

I'm considering a section on popular character name fragment fads such as "azn" (for Asian, although this is believed to frequently be used by non-Asians), "viet" (Vietnamese, also probably a false indicator of nationality), "SSJ" (Super Saiya-jin from the Dragonball manga/anime), "Sin" (assassin), and others. I'm a little hesitant since the same fads certainly crop up in other MMOGs - or any type of online community, for that matter. Let me know what you guys think and where (if at all) this kind of topic belongs. The Trashman 07:25, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Ludibrium

Is ludibrium part of ossyria or not? --Prod-You 05:09, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Ludibrium is part of Ossyria because the Taiwan official website say it

here the source but its in Chinese [[1]] 24.205.175.89 07:01, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Semi-protection

I have semi-protected it because I think this page has seen way more than its fair share of anon vandalism. When you go and edit the page, it says "WARNING: This page has been locked so that only administrators can edit it. Be sure you are following the protected page guidelines.", but if the edit box is white and not grey, then you are able to edit the article; the warning is a little misleading. enochlau (talk) 00:48, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Zakum Dungeon Quest

Because this quest is such a prominent part of other Maplestory versions, I added a section for it here. I'm basing this section mostly on memory, so some inconsistencies may exist. For that reason I did not go into much detail in the article. Cheers.

Personally I don't think its appropriate here. It may be a very popular quest which all people who play the game look forward to....but I think a more general party quest section is far more useful that one about the specific Zakum quest. I'm suggesting it be rewritten. --Prod-You 06:15, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Zakum is the second strongest monster (I think) so people might want a section for that.Runescape rocks 05:48, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but with every new island released there are stronger and stronger enemies. He's the strongest now, but there are very few people who are able to fight him, let alone beat him. And in general, maybe 1% of all MS players will actually ever see him (considering it takes soooo long to get to that high a level). He just isn't that important. -- Prod-You 01:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
There are currently three monsters (all bosses) which are stronger than Zakum in terms of level in Japanese MapleStory. According to hearsay, however, leveling up at high levels is nigh impossible without at least killing parts of Zakum. I don't know. Maybe it would be more appropriate belonging in a "Boss Monsters" section, wherever THAT would fit.

inappropriate tone

I'm tagging this page under inappropriate tone for the use of the second grammatical person. I know some of you might object, but use of it is highly unprofessional, rude and condescending to the reader because it assumes the reader wants to actually play it, rather than be informed about it. The use is so extensive I would have taken the time to clean it all, but I'm busy at the moment. I hope you can cleanup the second person references, make them in the third person ("players", perhaps). Then the tag can be removed. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 16:07, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Very well. I made quite a few edits, removing all references of "you", to something more formal.
Whoops, I didn't log in before I made the edit. --Antoshi 15:24, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Is this not good enough? I thought that what you wanted fixed was the inappropriate tone. Now that it is, why hasn't the tag been removed? --Antoshi 05:17, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

MapleStory Monsters merge

MapleStory Monsters contains no data whatsoever about actual monsters (it appears to have been moved to Wikibooks[2]). The current content of the page sounds more like a subsection of MapleStory than a standalone page. Jude(talk, contribs) 04:08, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I dont get...lol
So they want to move the monster list to the first page with the intro and stuff?
It's just moving of info around right?
As long as it presents a neat and professionalism I guess... But I dont get it to begin with...lol72.142.162.31 11:28, 2 March 2006 (UTC)72.sumthing.sumthing.xxx
Basically, MapleStory Monsters contained an extensive list of monsters. At some point in time, this list of monsters was removed from that article, and crossed to the sister-project, Wikibooks, leaving the MapleStory Monsters page deprecated with only a small amount of information in it. I am suggesting that this paragraph be merged into MapleStory, and that MapleStory Monsters be redirected to MapleStory. Jude(talk, contribs) 11:43, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
But like you said, it contains very little information, so i just suggest deleting MapleStory Monsters and keeping Maplestory the wait it is, with the wikibooks link. --69.30.175.59 17:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
I've put in a redirect, the info is useless and its much simpler than bothering with a delete. --Prod-You 17:33, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

More info about jump quests?

Should we actually explain what jump quests are under Quests? It says "all jump quests are repeatable with random rewards", but it never actually explains what they are. Should there be information added about them? --Bobadot 20:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Jumping quests are a very unique thing to MS, so i think they should have something written about them. I started off a small section, feel free to edit it. -- Prod-You 05:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
I have expanded this a lot under the IP of 72.234.76.209 (forgot to login). If it's a bit too much to be considered general for the article, feel free to edit it. -- Kalani 00:09, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Brought this info from main page as i feel its too specific -- Prod-You 02:46, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Shumi gives three quests. She is located by the entrance to the Kerning City Subway. These three quests are commonly referred to as B1, B2, and B3, respectively, and are completed within the Subway area. To enter the quest, talk to the ticketperson in the Subway, then to the Ticket Machine. B1 can be completed at level 20, B2 at level 30, and B3 at level 40.

John gives three quests. He is located at Lith Harbour. His quests are done at Sleepywood. To enter the quests, click on the Mysterious Statue. His first quest can be done at level 15, his second at level 30, and his last at level 60.

Sabitrama gives two quests. He is located at Sleepywood by the entrance to the Hotel. His quests are done at Ellinia. To enter the quests, talk to Shane. You must pay a fee in order to enter the quest. His first quest can be done at level 25, and his second at level 50.

Assistant Cheng gives one quest. He is located at the Ludibrium Toy Factory - Process 1, Zone 1. To enter the quest, talk to him and select the ETC option. This quest involves the use of moving conveyor belts, which can get highly annoying. Knock over all 12 barrels to collect the 10 mechanical parts. This quest can be done at level 30.

Emotions

Why are people changing the names for F6 and F7? The official names are Confused and What the...? respectively. As straight from the MapleSea website[3]. I have changed them back. However, if anyone can find any conflicting evidence, please do tell. --Bobadot 02:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

All right, I've added an "unofficial names" thing below the official names. If you must change the name, change these ones. Because the official names are above them, and they should not be renamed. Maybe you call F5 Insane, but that's unofficial. --Bobadot 06:42, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Cleaned that up a bit, hope you like it. -- Prod-You 07:11, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Like it? I love it! You're the first person to change the section - besides me - since I added the official names NOT to change them! Though Notes is a little unclear. What about, say, Nicknames instead of Notes? --Bobadot 08:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Heh, i just put notes cause thats what the last page i was looking at used. Perhaps common uses or something? i dunno. Give it a day and most of the other common editors should see it. -- Prod-You 09:15, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I changed it to Nicknames. That should be good enough. --Bobadot 18:44, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Can you really play with other versions?

I don't really know but my friend said you can play with other people in different versions, like people from Maple Global can play from people who downloaded it from Thai. Is that really true??

AFAIK, you can play with people on other versions, but you have to download the client for those versions. The client contains all the quest, enemy, item, etc. info and as the other non-global versions have more there would be obvious conflicts. I remember my bro tried out the Japan version. He had to download the Japan client, and everything was in japanese. Also, most certainly you will have to create a new account through the website to play on other servers since accounts arent shared. -- Prod-You 05:56, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, you definitely need to get a seperate account and the game client for the version you wish to play at. --212.149.182.99 09:04, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I heard you might need a SIN equivalent to play on kMS. Also some location restrictions, as in the server wont allow you to connect. DL the client and try it. You should understand the language though. 69.192.111.9 13:13, 27 March 2006 (UTC)69.192.111.9

Sick of the Self-Promoting Screenshots

I just went ahead and removed every image of a screenshot that has someone's in-game name displayed in the picture. The reason for this is because I don't want this article to turn into another popularity contest. People start adding screenshots of themselves "in action", and it does nothing to help the article, it only makes other people more willing to add pictures of themselves as well, then others add themselves and it continues on in a cycle. I also added a blank tag warning users not to add any screenshots with their or other's in-game nick's in the picture to this article. Discuss here. --Antoshi~! T | C 03:57, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I brought back the pictures. There hasn't been that much trouble on this page with people putting their better pictures since most pictures right now demonstrate something. Getting rid of all the pictures just because they have a name is too broad ranging and we would lose a few good pictures. Some of the pictures could actually be improved and the only way to hint at that is to have the pictures. We just have to stick by reverting useless changes to pictures. -- Prod-You 05:57, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I apologize, Prod, I realize that you're an active contributing member to this article, but I feel as though I have to challenge your revert. As I said before, these pictures are for the most part self-promotion. Anyone can place a screenshot of themselves and deem it "educational." I feel as though there's plenty of pictures already, and they're all apparently in the Monsters section. A better idea, to keep these screenshots, while elimination self-promoting is to "blank out" the names of the characters in the screenshots. I feel that an Admin may have to be called in to resolve this dispute. --Antoshi~! T | C 19:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I've seen you around a bunch too, and no need to apologize, everyone's say is equal (cept for vandals). For now, only one person has tried putting their pic in (and it was actually a useless pic since all you could see was some skill covering everything). About blanking out names, I feel that unless its done well, it looks kinda ugly. For example the first gameplay image, apart from the weird combination of sunglasses and helm, the blanking out of the name looks out of place. Oddly enough, this image without a name was the one to get changed :P. Perhaps, instead of restricting access, we have a section here of "Requested Screenshots" which discusses which images are need, which need improvement, etc. Any other image changes are rejected. And an admin isn't really needed, we just need more active contributors to add their say. -- Prod-You 19:41, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Nothing is really being shown off in the screenshots without blanked names. In the Character Classes section, yes, everyone is showing off. But most of them are just screenshots to help the article. However, I would like a requested screenshots section. --Bobadot 00:20, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Stat points

  1. The stat that increases damage depends on the player's job and weapon.
  2. The exact effects of each stat depend on the player's job and weapon.
  3. General effects of each stat do not depend on a characters class, however, damage will vary based on job and the equipped weapon.

This line has been edited again and again. Lets decide what its supposed to say here once and for all before putting it back in. Personally I prefer the 2nd since they don't only affect damage. Perhaps we should put a link to hidden street back in (I dont remember when that disappeared). -- Prod-You 04:06, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Prod, the second line is better. For the same dagger (say the field dagger, Lvl 15) The max damage delt by a warrior is determined by the following equation: [(STR * 4.0 + DEX) / 100] * 30 (from Hidden Street) However the equation for a thief is: [(LUK * 3.6 + STR + DEX) / 100]* 30 (again from Hidden Street) Typer525 04:27, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
You see, #2 can be misinterpeted. One could conclude that Luk, for example, will only affect Thieves significantly for their avoid. But the truth is that a Warrior with 40 more Luk(because of NimbleBody) will have the same amount of avoid.
Same thing with Str. It increases melee dmg no matter what class you are. Str will increase the 'punching' of Sins, 'whacking' with Bow, Xbow, Wand, Staff, etc.
The old sentence (#2) is misleading.
Sentence #2 also has no relations to damage what so ever. It is 'implied' that it is related.
I dont care if you re-edit #1 to something else as long as it's not misleading.
Btw, please remove any 'Str increases HP' stuff if it pops up. I'd rather troll forums instead of wiki.69.192.111.9 06:52, 28 March 2006 (UTC)69.192.111.9
Added another option -- Prod-You 08:19, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Ya something like that. My English isnt that good that's why I was hoping one of you guys would have understand the misleading part without me actually re-wording the sentence. 69.192.111.9 01:19, 29 March 2006 (UTC)69.192.111.9
No comments for a while, so im adding the 3rd option back into the main article. -- Prod-You 22:49, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Super-beginner

Now, there is a new class called the "super-beginner", and is exclusive to MapleSEA. They don't have a lot of information about them currently.

I have seen the maplesea website, they did an entire announcement on it. However, I am tempted to say it is an April's Fool joke. I need verification. Until then, I am removing the section on it. Typer525 03:30, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
It is confirmed that it is an april's fool joke. see the news at their site [4] -- fnfd 09:58, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Maplestory 2

Could someone verify this? If this is vandalism, we need to correct this as soon as possible to prevent false rumors.Typer525 Contact 02:56, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

I HIGHLY doubt this. Google got me nothing about it. Also, according to that the first version is the US version which I highly doubt from Nexon being a Korean company. Also, something that isn't "common knowledge" shouldn't be on here without proper references. I've gotten rid of it until there is proof. -- Prod-You 04:50, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, good point. I why go to version 2 when the game is not even version 1? Isn't it at version .21??Typer525 Contact 14:28, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
