The mayor of Mapleton is James E. Swanson.
The popular local garage band EFS calls Mapleton home. Formed in 2004, EFS started their short lived musical career in the garage of bassist and eventual lead singer Ryan Anderson. "Well, first we started with little amps, and then finally moved to some of them big things once we got good, and eventually, when we got real good, we added a drummer," says Anderson. EFS first started out as a four piece band. "Basically we had four of us. Joe on Vocals, myself on Lead guitar, Thomas (the tom) Burman on drums, and Ryan on bass," says (Rollover) DJ Beekman. After Joe Bushway, the first and very short lived singer of the band took his leave after losing his voice on stage one night, Ryan Anderson stepped in and just wailed on the vocals. The band became a three piece. "I was excited about that, Joe is an amazing man, and a dear friend of mine, but working with 3 people instead of 4 makes it so much easier, especially when your drummer doesn't give a damn what your playing," Ryan adds. Playing live for the first time at the Maple River Relay For Life, EFS grew a bit of a following. This led to them eventually accepting 3 more gigs overall. "I hate to say it, but we were a live band with no shows. It stinks not having a manager," Thomas Burman said of having very few live shows. EFS called it quits for good in the summer of 2006 after all 3 members went to college. "F*&^ing A man, we were a highschool garage band, there is no glory in that at all," says Beekman.
UPDATE! EFS has reportedly gotten back together to practice in hopes of getting some bar gigs. They now go by the Moniker “Space Age Rodeo.” “Man, like Thomas said, we are a live band without shows, but now, since we are getting back into the swing of things, we might get the glory of playing in Mankato at a hole in the wall bar, now that is something special to treasure,” Said (Rollover) DJ Beekman. “When Ryan called me to get the band back together I couldn’t believe it, I peed my pants in excitement,” Said Thomas (The Tom) Burman. “Well, we basically have 3 practices under our belt, it’s the start of June, and we don’t remember half of the songs we knew in highschool, so basically we are f*&^ed,” said Ryan (Wildcat) Anderson.
