Maoricrater explorata is a southern, cold-water species of limpet, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Lepetidae, the true limpets.

This true limpet is endemic to New Zealand, including its sub-Antarctic islands.

It is found at depths of between 70 and 660 m.

[edit] Shell description

The shell is rather large for the family, thin but strong, and white. The apex is near to the anterior end, with a steep concave anterior slope, and a high arched posterior one.

The maximum shell length is 11 mm, width 8.5 mm, and height 5.5 mm.
