[edit] Jersey references

Greetings,

I was wondering if you could help with the article on Jersey as far as references are concerned (using the citation templates).

God bless you,

Grumpy Troll (talk) 13:42, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I have pretty much taken care of the history section (its references should be transferred to the main article), but I am somewhat unable to provide many references for information in the politics and culture sections, added to which the politics section could do with a knowledgeable rewrite.
God bless you,

[edit] Narrow Water Castle

Hi Man vyi! I've asked a question on Talk:Narrow Water Castle. As I've seen you have made the foto, so you will most probably know: Would you please mind answering my question? Just a short answer here or even better on the talk-page would be great. Thanks --Rheinländer 13:35, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Battle of Jersey

In the Battle of Jersey wiki page it states that there was a Jerseyman who was arrested in the aftermath. Knowing you are a history buff do you have any idea who, I can't find it anywhere. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.20.183.38 (talk) 09:41, 27 December 2006 (UTC).

Found it, it was a Le Geyt!

[edit] Crown Dependency

I have revised the relationship with the crown section of the Crown Dependency page to more accurately examine the complex feudal relationship between the King of England and King of France when the King of England was equal to and was also the subordinate of the King of France due to his position as Duke of Normandy and Acquitaine and the position of the Channel Islands who remain loyal to the rightful 'Duke of Normandy' even though he has subsequently given up claim to the title.

Knowing you have a great interest in these things, perhaps you will just check over and make sure I am being impartial etc.

Cheers. Darius —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.20.183.38 (talk) 10:17, 27 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Evolution of the Bailiff

Sorry Man Vyi, been busy in the Jersey section today. I have added a section to Bailiff (Channel Islands) looks at the role of the Bailiff within its wider historical context as suggested re McGonnell vs. United Kingdom in the Politics of Jersey page. See what you think. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.20.183.38 (talk) 17:32, 27 December 2006 (UTC).

Have also updated this in the History section of the States of Jersey page.

I see your point, wishful thinking I guess... edited accordingly

Ooh, nice. Was reading another bit of interesting history the other day while researching for the newsletter. Ever heard of a former Lt. Governor Sir Tomkyns Hilgrove Turner (Hilgrove Street is named after him) most interesting man. Are you going to the Battle of Jersey re-enactment walk on the 6th? DariusJersey

[edit] Jersey Green Party

Just noticed that on the List of political parties in Jersey this party had indicated that it had reformed in 2005 and listed two members Stuart Syvret and Geraint Jennings. Just wondering if this was correct. DariusJersey

[edit] Languages of the European Union: A prolonged discussion over new member states data.

As there is an ongoing and rather prolonged discussion over some data about the new member states in Languages_of_the_European_Union#Language_skills_of_European_Union_citizens, please see the discussion in Talk:Languages_of_the_European_Union#2007_update and, as you have recently contributed to the article, you may want to add some comment. --Michkalas 20:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gallo language

For rewrite Gallo, you should read my note before, and read fr:mayennais too. Perche in my mind, speak a dialect closer gallo than Norman. 86.72.170.26 13:01, 8 February 2007 (UTC), i.e. fr:User:Vincnet

[edit] Let's all try not to potentially by any chance possible offend anybody at all ever

Dear Person,

I have seen that you have taken it unto yourself to remove images from the Jersey article that might possibly be perceived as potentially offending by another person. Under the strictest condition that it would not offend you the slightest I commend your actions. If however you are offended by me drawing attention towards you or your action or if there is even the slightest chance that another person might somehow find themselves affected detrimentally in their enjoyment of the utterly unoffended state then I withdraw this commendation with prejudice. Never being offended for any reason whatsoever is one of the New Freedoms we are given to enjoy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.160.250.209 (talk) 14:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Paul Le Clare

Thanks for the "tone down". I only added to this one, not one of my creations as you probably saw, some anonymous "talk" person actually put in the words that you took out - probably the same one who put in a libellous statement on the Stuart Syvrey one, which I agree are OTT. My rules of thumb for political biogs are dib, education and career, States major positions, possibly outside interests if notable, no opinions, but possible short quote to show kind of platform. If living family, no details of them at all, which I think is most important.

Hello, Man vyi! Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia. [edit] Listing the names of the EU institutions...

...in the official languages of the EU in Languages of the European Union is absolutely redundant. [edit] Beans and peas

The pea and bean categories don't make much sense, it's not clear what should be included in the categories since there is no real botanical distinction between a pea and a bean - and a bean can be anything that grows in a pod, see this; I'm trying to get a more useful category for edible legumes to replace the pea and bean categories. I think that a category for Category:legume dishes would be good inside category:Food; but I'll wait until the peas and beans thing is sorted out. --Peta 00:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Actually I went ahead and made the dishes category. --Peta 00:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Culture of Jersey

Just drawing your attention to the fact that I added a television section to the Culture of Jersey article, and have also created a Culture of Guernsey article too (which needs tidying up). I have also added Guernesiais nicknames to each of the Guernsey parish articles, and a wee bit to the St Ouen article about how the Sercquais came from there. --MacRusgail 15:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Victoria College, Jersey

Helllo. It looks like we both have an interest in the school which is excellent. Can you clarify something for me. You mention that the school is not 'OV'. What do you mean by this? Second, I was under the impression the school was a public school (member of HMC) and als fee paying. Is there some querk of Jersey law?

[edit] Victoria College, Jersey

Responding to your response to my previous post:

Hello. Thanks for the work on Vic. No problem. Enjoyed it For the cat:, the School itself is not an OV (Old Victorian) so shouldn't be in the Old Victorians category - but the category page contains a link to the Vic article. Interesting point and agreed. Link to Cat is useful from the main page however. Perhaps a second link within the Eminent Alumni heading would suffice (‘for alumni in alphabetical order see...’ or something of that nature.) The status of the school is slightly bizarre in that it is owned by the public, but a member of HMC. The existence of a fee-paying sector within States-provided education in Jersey sometimes seems odd to outsiders..... I see. It looks like another user has changed the reference again by the way, for clarity.

BTW, I'm not certain that Queen Victoria can be described as being the Founder without being somewhat misleading. What do you think? My mistake. Do you know who founded the College?

[edit] Royal Court of Jersey

I have pulled out the copyright info from the Volaw site and added to the discussion page. Personal use of the text is allowed without permission and I hardly think that this is commercial use.

Also there are significant differences in content, which I have done a quick re-edit on to enhance and expand on (for example the ECHR position). This includes additional information which is not found in the Volaw source.

See what you think now.

[edit] "ex-colonies"

I just don't think it's right. They stopped being called colonies, but I don't think that makes them ex-colonies? More to the point, doesn't it make just as much sense without the "ex" ? Biofoundationsoflanguage 08:34, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Many Overseas Territories do now have more autonomy. But for the Falklands and Saint Helena the Governor still very much is in charge and for them the name change would've been little more than that, a name change. I think 'Dependencies' may confuse things with Jersey, IOM, and Guernsey. Despite my name, I'm not a language expert. But when I saw "ex-colonies" it threw me a bit, and I bet it would throw others too. Biofoundationsoflanguage 08:56, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Crown dependancy place infobox

Hello, I've noticed you're a Wikipedian in or from the Channel Islands. There is a discussion found here regarding the possible use of the Template:Infobox UK place on settlement articles relating to the three Crown dependancies of the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey.

It's a very strong infobox with alot of automation, flexibility and localised mapping, (examples are found at Kirkwall or Chew Valley) and though is entitled with "UK", wouldn't formally display the United Kingdom in any article. I'd welcome you to discuss if this is a good idea for these island's towns and villages. Hope to hear from you, Jza84 23:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Guernsey Parishes

Hi. Although in spoken English, Guernsey residents will use the genitive noun for parishes, e.g. St Sampson's, this is wrong, and it should simply be St Sampson.

See the states of guernsey website.

Thus I believe we should correct this problem on the Guernsey page and thus on the individual pages for the parishes.

I hope you agree. I am not sure how to edit a page title.

Thanks.
