Manavata is a US, UK and India registered charity and can be accessed on Manavata
Originally called Chaitanya Bharath Youth Association, Manavata was founded on 19th October, 1991 by Srinivasa Chowdary Alluri, a social activist, in Lolla, a remote village in the Godavari belt of the Andhra Pradesh state in South India.
Sorrows, hunger, illness, premature death of children and the lack of direction to the young around him in rural India, motivated Srinivasa to ignite a movement that strove to eradicate these ills from the society. Srinivasa always had the love for reading great books and tried to inculcate the philosophy into his life. The Sanskrit - Hindu epic Bhagavad Gita has had a great impact on his life and the teachings inspired him to tread the path of selfless service.
Today, Manavata has more than 2000 volunteers all over the world and has helped in the lives of more than 6000 people. ‘Manavata’ is ‘humanity’ in Sanskrit. The under riding philosophy of the Manavata group is ‘Service to Humanity is Service to God’.
The beauty of Manavata is its simplified ideology. Perform Yoga asanas (as a form of exercise) in the morning, eat food in its natural form with minimum artificial intervention, lead a disciplined life and follow timeliness and help the needy, is the way of life for a Manavata believer. This is being built around successful and professional careers. In fact, 80% of Manavata volunteers are software professionals working in the US, UK, Australia and Singapore.
The South Asian Tsunami in 2004 and the Gujarat Earth Quake in 2001 were some of the most devastating disasters where Manavata members contributed in sweat and kind.
Today, in parts of India, where blood donation is considered taboo, Manavata volunteers run blood donation awareness programmes and have tieups with several government blood banks to publish blood requirements on their website and obtain donors. On 19-10-03 at Samhita Junior College, Hyderabad, India, on the occasion of Manavata's 12th anniversary, a blood donation camp was held wherein 60 people donated blood. The camps are now a regular feature.
The Charity runs a poor children home in Lolla and has recently started a school in the campus.
You will not find widespread coverage of Manavata in the media because the volunteers believe in service without expecting publicity. Most of their activities are effectively life changing but remarkably low key.
