[edit] History of Mantellisaurus

This page needs to be expanded, doesn't it? The citation for Mantellisaurus atherfieldensis should be (Hooley, 1925) [originally Iguanodon]. Also, I want you to create sections about the taxonomic history, behavior, diet, lifestyle, and geography of Mantellisaurus, and add references for Mantellisaurus. The names "Cetiosaurus" brachyurus, "C." brevis, Heterosaurus, Sphenospondylus, and Vectisaurus should be removed from the Iguanodon page. Of these five names, "C." brachyurus, Heterosaurus, Sphenosondylus, and Vectisaurus should be placed in synonymy with Mantellisaurus. "C." brevis, however, is actually a dubious eusauropod (Upchurch et. al., 2004), and referrable to Pelorosaurus, although iguanodont material assigned to "C." brevis is Mantellisaurus. Because "C." brevis is a macronarian, it should be included not in the synonymy of Mantellisaurus, but in the Pelorosaurus species list.

What did Paul (2006) comment on the synonymy of "Cetiosaurus" brachyurus, Heterosaurus, Sphenospondylus, and Vectisaurus with Mantellisaurus?

Upchurch, P.M., Barrett, P.M., and Dodson, P. (2004). Sauropoda. In: Weishampel, D.B., Osmólska, H., and Dodson, P. (eds.). The Dinosauria (2nd edition). University of California Press:Berkeley 259-322.

I was just thinking that someone could now write a cracking Mantellisaurus article now that we have all of the refs in the Iguanodon article. Paul didn't comment on the synonymy of other species and genera, but word is that a more detailed article is in the works, so until that's settled, it's safer to leave those species on the Iguanodon page (notice I added question marks to the taxobox). "C." brevis was chimeric, so I'll add that note to Iguanodon. J. Spencer 15:25, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
