Reference to this railway occurs repeatedly in contemporary and historical accounts of the Russo-Japanese War. Inasmuch as one legitimate view of the war is one fought over who would control and dominate the region serviced by the Southern Manchurian Railway spurline, and virtually all the wars battles were fought near it, this article seems necessary.
