Manzar is the annual literary festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The first edition was launched on the evening of the 29th of March 2007 in the Tagore Open Air Theatre by Justice Malviya (Retired). The occasion was a Kavi Sammelan (Gathering of Poets) of noted Hindi poets.

[edit] Manzar '08

Manzar 2008 was scheduled to take place some time during 2008. Fortunately it has been scrapped and all its 'elite' core team members and heads ,trying to add another tiny feather in their CVs, have been dismissed. It had been decided that IIT Kharagpur already has enough of fests and literature has its avenue in culture an aspect covered by the age old Spring-Fest. Also other reasons include lack of participants last year and lack of sponsors.

[edit] Manzar '07

Manzar '07 was launched with the Kavi Sammelan which saw poets like Dr. Kumar Vishwas www.kumarvishwas.com , Nida Fazli, Munnavar Rana, Surendra Sharma and others. The event was a grand success. However events held on 30th March and the 1st of April saw a very tepid gathering. Given the fact that it was launched this year, the low turnouts are self explanatory. There was a healthy outstation participation.

[edit] Manzar: The Idea

Unlike Spring Fest(SF) and Kshitij, the two major annual festivals of IIT Kharagpur, Manzar was patronized by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the institute. It was made possible by the efforts of Team Awaaz, a group of students who bring out the Hindi monthly of the institute, of the Raj Bhasha Vibhaag, IIT Kharagpur.

The major motivation of Manzar was the fact that while SF is the cultural fest which involves music concerts, fashion troupes, dances etc. and Kshitij is the technical fest, there has been no platform for other major student activities like literary competitions, and workshops for interested IIT students in movie making, blogging and other such activities. Thus, Manzar was conceptualized. Manzar aims to be the literary equal of SF and Kshitij.
